Following Route 1 or the Pacific Highway along the coast of California, we head north from the heat and deserts that separate the USA and Mexico, but the influences in cuisine have no borders.

Southern California cuisine is known for its Mexican inspired flavors and laid back beach lifestyle. Fresh fruits, fish and vegetables are part of the brightly colored foods of the area known as So-Cal (southern California).

As we head north, we pass through the densely populated cities along the coast as well as the vast open fields where agriculture is one of the most important parts of the state economy. The twists and turns of US 1 take us along the cliffs of the Pacific ocean through Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, San Luis Obispo up to San Fransisco and into the Redwood Forest.

California Dreamin’ is a state of mind and lifestyle that makes its way into the cuisine of one of the most famous places in the world.
