Sarah Pace is the founder of More than Food and this is her story...
When I met my husband, he spoke hardly any English and I only knew how to say the colors and my name in Spanish. It didn't take us long to develop a language of our own, with lots of theatrics and pointing to express ourselves. Our conversations seemed to always head in the direction of food and we developed a fairly vast vocabulary.
It only took two weeks for us to know that we were going to be part of each other’s lives for a very long time. Two years later, we got married and I officially moved to Valencia. I taught English for five years at a very special academy in Barrio del Carmen, El CarmEnglish. Currently, I manage and run MorethanFood full time and teach private English classes as well.
In 2015, I decided to pull all of my skills together and open my home to the academy students for cooking classes in English. We spent four months cooking together, talking, eating and getting to know each other. Once I realized how much the students used their English and how much they learned from an experience outside of the classroom, I knew what I wanted to do with my time in Spain.
Experiential learning has been proven to have greater effects on actual understanding and utilizing the information we learn. More Than Food was born in the summer of 2015 and with the desire for cultural exchange and the shared love of food. We look forward to having you at the table.
